The Festival of Old Bread Ovens

Updated: Oct 23, 2023

A festival that takes place every 2 years and animates the whole village. The next will be a smooth recovery on August 27 and 28, 2022 before returning to our party in its entirety on the weekend of June 17 and 18, 2023. On this occasion, the old bread ovens of the village are lit and the bakers (mainly retired) chain the old-fashioned batches. The flour is offered by the Nicot flour mill now located in Chagny (3kms) but historically in Chaudenay, at the end of Rue de l'Eglise. All the steps can be watched and explained: from turning on the oven to taking out the bread. During this festival, all of Burgundy is honored with stands dedicated to crafts and gastronomy. Several brotherhoods are also present to highlight specific products. The oven of the family home is of course open to the public for this celebration, for our greatest pleasure. We are lucky to have as sponsor Eric PRAS, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, starred chef of the LAMELOISE restaurant located in Chagny. Since the last party in 2019, Bruno CORMERAIS, baker, Meilleur Ouvrier de France has also been an honorary member of the Confrérie des Anciens Fours à Pains de Chaudenay. The Fête des Anciens Fours à Pains is a festive and friendly event in which everyone is happy to participate.
