Room n°2 : Saïda

For this second theme, I choose to draw inspiration not from my own experience but from that of my parents and my paternal and maternal grandparents.

On Dad's side, my grandmother Joséphine was already a widow when she returned. She visited several cities in France and settled in Grenoble where she started a new life with my aunt André and her son Patrick.

On Mom's side, my grandparents toured France before finding their little paradise: Chaudenay. Despite the harsh winters at the time, they found warmth among the inhabitants as evidenced by their circle of friends. They went to Spain for the winter (my grandfather René's country of origin) and returned after the coldest period.

As far back as I can remember, we came on vacation in the summer to Chaudenay where my grandmother Joséphine and my godmother Andrée joined us in addition to my godfather Gérard, great-uncles/great-aunts, uncles, aunts, cousins. For as long as I can remember, the house has always been filled with 3 generations!

The stories of the elders, the noisy kitchen filled with cooking smells, the hulling of the green beans, the eggplant flan (Gasp... / thanks to Elodie and Nicolas for helping me start and finish), the men watching over the paella or the barbecue while drinking the anisette and us, the children, laughing, playing and creating our memories, not without a few ailments for the more mischievous ones.

My parents now live in the charming village of Chaudenay after having visited the world according to dad's transfers. But it is in Algeria that they grew up as well as their parents and that will therefore be my inspiration. A mix between their stories and my imagination.

So, in this room, I hope that we are transported into the stories of Sherazade which lasted 1001 nights (Even if the stories are of Indo-Persian origin, we assimilate them to the culture of the Arab World).

When we mention the countries of North Africa, the following come to mind:

  •  The Desert: burning during the day and freezing at night in which the caravans of the men in blue - the Tuaregs - navigate

  •  The Oases: Source of Life and Place of Sharing

  •  The lively Markets filled with the smell of spices and dazzling us with the shimmering colors of the fabrics

  •  The Hammams: Place for discussion and relaxation

And so many other images, scents, tastes.....

A land of contrasts where the memories of my parents still live.

The SAIDA room will have the same characteristics as the WAZA room: independent toilets but for the rest of the surface area, the spaces will be open with a semi-transparent separation between the room and the bathroom.

Below are some inspirations for the bedroom:

Any suggestions? Ideas? A preference?

How to separate the bedroom from the bathroom:

And finally, inspiration for the bathroom: the choice is difficult

For fun:

Here is the 2nd universe of Welcome Home.

The name of Saïda is that of the town where my mother grew up. Dad lived in a small village: Ain El Hadjar ("Source de Pierre") located less than 10km from Saïda La Belle.

The anecdotes are numerous and the memories seem to diverge depending on the narrator, which makes them even more vivid!!! A must: the Ain El Hadjar swimming pool....... Olympic swimming pool or Tadpole Pond?....... Guaranteed laughter every time!
